Headings become Org headlines (* ** ***), bold/italic formatting is preserved, lists convert to Org list syntax, tables become Org tables, and links are maintained. Complex formatting like columns may simplify.

Word Heading 1 becomes * (one star), Heading 2 becomes ** (two stars), and so on. This preserves your document's outline structure for Org-mode's folding and navigation features.

Tables convert to Org pipe-delimited format. Simple tables work perfectly; complex tables with merged cells may need minor adjustment. Formulas don't transfer but can be re-added using Org's table formula syntax.

Image references are preserved as Org file links. The actual image files need to be extracted separately from the DOCX and placed where Org can find them.

Accept or reject all changes in Word before converting. Track changes markup won't transfer meaningfully to Org format. The final accepted text is what gets converted.

Word footnotes convert to Org footnote syntax [fn:1]. Endnotes are similarly converted. The footnote content appears at the end of the document or inline depending on the conversion settings.

Comments are typically stripped during conversion as Org uses a different commenting system. Save important comments separately or add them as Org comments (lines starting with #) after conversion.
