CRC8 is an 8-bit Cyclic Redundancy Check producing a single-byte checksum. It's widely used in embedded systems, sensors, and serial protocols where memory and bandwidth are limited.

CRC8 is used in 1-Wire protocol (Dallas/Maxim sensors like DS18B20), DVB satellite TV, ATM cells, SMBus, I2C protocols, and many embedded applications.

For Dallas 1-Wire sensors (DS18B20, DS2401), use CRC8-MAXIM (polynomial 0x31, also called CRC8-1Wire or DOW CRC). For SMBus, use CRC8-SMBUS.

Common variants include CRC8-MAXIM (1-Wire), CRC8-SMBUS, CRC8-DVB-S2, CRC8-CDMA2000, CRC8-ITU, CRC8-ROHC, and CRC8-WCDMA. Each uses different polynomials and settings.
