Frame extraction converts video into individual still images, one per frame or at specified intervals. This is essential for creating thumbnails, analyzing motion, making sprite sheets, extracting screenshots, creating stop-motion sequences, or preparing frames for image editing or machine learning datasets.

PNG provides lossless quality and transparency support but larger file sizes—ideal for graphics and sprites. JPG creates smaller files with lossy compression—best for photos and when file size matters. WebP offers better compression than JPG with optional transparency, but has slightly less universal support.

'All frames' extracts every single frame from your video—at 30fps video, that's 30 images per second. '1 per second' extracts 1 frame/sec regardless of original fps. 'Every 2nd' skips every other frame. 'Every 5th' extracts every 5th frame. Lower rates mean fewer images and smaller ZIP files.

It depends on video duration and frame rate setting. A 10-second 30fps video has 300 total frames. With 'All frames' you get 300 images. With '1 per second' you get 10 images. The tool displays estimated frame count before extraction to help you plan.

Extract all frames for detailed motion analysis, sprite sheet creation, or when you need every moment captured. Use 1 per second for video summaries, thumbnail collections, or when you just need key moments. Sampling rates (every 2nd/5th) balance between detail and file count.

The tool will warn you about large frame counts. Extracting 1000+ frames as PNG can create very large ZIP files (potentially gigabytes). Consider using JPG format, increasing frame skip rate (every 5th or 1 per second), or trimming your video first to reduce output size.

Creating ZIP archives of many images is CPU-intensive. The browser must encode each frame to the selected format (PNG/JPG/WebP), then compress all files into a ZIP. Large frame counts or high-resolution videos naturally take longer. Be patient—the download will start automatically when ready.

Frames are extracted at the original video resolution. If your video is 1920×1080, each frame will be 1920×1080. There's currently no downscaling option—extract at full quality, then use image batch resizing tools if needed.
