IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique 15-digit number assigned to every mobile phone, tablet, and cellular device. It's used by carriers to identify devices on networks and can block stolen phones.

Dial *#06# on any phone to display the IMEI. You can also find it in Settings > About Phone, on the SIM tray, or on the original box. iPhones show it in Settings > General > About.

IMEI uses the Luhn algorithm (mod-10 checksum). The last digit is a check digit calculated from the first 14 digits. If the checksum passes, the IMEI format is valid.

A valid checksum only confirms the format is correct. It doesn't verify if the IMEI is registered, if the phone is stolen, or if it's genuine. Use carrier databases for that.

TAC (Type Allocation Code) is the first 8 digits of an IMEI. It identifies the device manufacturer and model. The GSMA maintains the TAC database.

This tool validates format only. To check stolen status, contact your carrier or use services like GSMA's IMEI database, though access may be restricted.

IMEI is 15 digits. IMEI/SV (Software Version) is 16 digits with an added software version number. Some devices show both. We validate the 15-digit IMEI.

Legitimate phones have unique IMEIs. Duplicate IMEIs indicate counterfeit devices or IMEI cloning, which is illegal in most countries.
